Historically, the Gryphon is a legendary creature with the body of a Lion and the head and wings of an Eagle. Because the Lion was traditionally considered the King of Beasts and the Eagle the King of Birds, The Gryphon was considered the King of all Creatures.  As such it was an especially powerful and majestic creature.  With its place atop the animal hierarchy, The Gryphon was particularly known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.

As a new Dupont Circle eatery, we believe that The Gryphon will be guarding a new priceless treasure in Dupont Circle and Washington, DC.  Our mission is to create a Restaurant brand that blends food, sports, and celebration into a place where memories are made every day!  As a result we are looking serve those who believe that they deserve to have great food and great drinks in a comfortable, up-scale, environment dedicated to quality sports viewing in a place that encourages celebration and social dining.

Just like the creature is the greatest combination of the king of beasts and the king of birds, The Gryphon restaurant and bar is the marriage of the best of a gastropub and the best of an upscale sports bar. The 5,000 square-foot eatery boasts the “social dining” atmosphere of a restaurant, the heart of a pub and the view of a stadium.

Executive Chef Joseph Evans of our cousin restaurant Lost Society has crafted a hearty, refined menu that modernizes and elevates the classic bar bite to a truly satiable meal. The innovative menu from Chef Evans includes such things as palate-tantalizing appetizers like chili-and-soy Gryphon wings and duck rillette with crostini as well as re-imagined favorites such as oyster po’ boy sandwiches and fried oysters with arugula, smoked maple hot sauce and worcestershire beurre blanc.

The extensive drink selections will have as much detail and refinement as our culinary pursuits.  Working with our in-house experts, we will provide a full range of custom cocktails, house made sodas, purees and simple syrups for blending the best that the city will have to sip on.  If cocktails are not your fancy, we will feature an extensive list, at least 30, local and nationally brewed bottled beers, as well as, local brews on tap.

Inside, you’ll find a setting designed for comfort and socializing.  The dark-wood furnishings, bucolic decor pieces and rich yellow accents contribute to a uniquely masculine – but distinctly sexy – environment. Accent pieces like “betting” chalkboards behind the bars, oversized tufted leather sofas and antlers hanging from the walls and ceilings reinforce the warm, “gaming” nature of the venue while retaining its fresh and witty ambiance.

Not to mention, 31 TVs distinctly placed throughout so as not to miss a single minute of any game!
